Jean Thomassen (1949)is a Dutch painter and writer who in the early years worked in the anonymity of his studio in The Hague.Actress Ine Veen arranged his first exhibition and television documentary and was model for his unusual paintings. His work was (in late eighties)awarded with prizes in Canada, the United States and Bulgaria. He is the leading exponent of the absurd realism. He was big news in 1991 through a series of commemorative exhibitions around ballerina Anna Pavlova about whom he wrote the controversial biography. Jean Thomassen and Ine Veen appeared in many international newspapers and on television including CNN.Since 1998 Thomassen is in the Guinness Book of Records as the creator of the world's smallest oil.It measures 1.2 x 1.2 mm and pictures the right eye of Ine Veen. |
