Symona Colina Jeltema
|
As an artist Symona Colina (1954, Ridderkerk, the Netherlands) has always gone her own way. During her study at the Minerva Academy in Groningen the lecturers were not able to sway her from her fantastic-realistic style. In her college days Symona Colina was particularly interested in the technical aspect of painting. Due to her control of, for example, perspective and oil color technique her work has since developed into an intriguing combination of form and color, which initially brings to mind associations of a fanciful fairytale world. Upon closer inspection we can see that the images with all their details are symbols for the continuation of life, and it becomes clear that the artist’s motive is much more earthly than the painting on the surface leads one to suspect. Symona Colina has been living and working in Italy for a number of years now. In addition to drawing and painting, this versatile artist also makes marble and bronze sculptures. |
